guinea pigs care & hygiene
Hygiene is important to ensure that your guinea pig lives a long and healthy life and also to control unwanted odours.
- You should change your cavie's cage/hutch litter twice a week and everyday if you have young ones.
- Bedding has to be replaced once a week.
- The guinea pig's quarters should be cleaned all these times and then use a mild animal disinfectant spray. Always buy pet disinfectants or use ampholytic disinfectants normally used in catering. Never use phenol/carbolic acid type disinfectants.
- In summer, guinea pig hutches should be scrubbed through with hot water and mild disinfectant, rinsed and then leave it dry while your guinea pigs are outside.
